Know Exactly Where Your Child Stands Before Exam Day

Practising at home with a workbook is not the same as sitting a timed paper. Children need to feel what it's actually like: the clock ticking, the pressure to move on, the moment when they're not sure and have to make a decision. My 11+ mock exams recreate that experience in a safe, supportive setting so there are no surprises on the day.

Every paper is marked by me personally. You'll get a score and a detailed breakdown of how your child performed across each section, exactly where they lost marks and a clear set of priorities for what to work on next.

What the Mock Exams Cover

1. Reading Comprehension

Each mock includes at least one challenging reading passage with questions that test inference, vocabulary in context, retrieval and summary, exactly as they appear on the real paper. I mark not just whether the answer is right, but whether your child's technique will earn full marks under exam board criteria.

2. Writing Tasks

Your child will complete a timed writing task (whether it's a creative piece, a persuasive letter or a descriptive passage) matched to the style their exam board uses. I assess structure, vocabulary, grammar, spelling and the overall impact of the writing, then give specific feedback on how to lift the quality under timed conditions.

3. Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling

Many 11+ papers include a dedicated SPaG section or weave these skills into the comprehension and writing tasks. My mocks cover both approaches. I identify the specific grammar and spelling patterns your child is tripping on so you know exactly where to focus revision.

4. Exam Technique and Time Management

Getting the English right is only half the battle. Your child also needs to manage their time and know when to move on. Mock assessments build these skills.

Who This Is For

Children in Year 5 or Year 6 Sitting the 11+ Soon

If your child's exam is coming up in the next term or two, mock exams give them realistic practice and a clear picture of where they stand right now.

Year 4 Students Starting Preparation Early

An early mock can be a brilliant benchmark. It shows you what your child can already do well and where to direct their preparation before things ramp up in Year 5.

Children Who Freeze or Panic Under Exam Pressure

Some children know the material but fall apart when the clock starts. Repeated mock experience in a calm, supportive environment builds the familiarity that takes the fear away.

Parents Who Want an Honest Assessment

If you're not sure whether your child is on track (or you just want a second opinion from a qualified teacher), a mock exam with full feedback gives you a clear, unvarnished picture.

Frequently Asked Questions

What format do the 11+ mock exams follow?

Each mock exam mirrors the format, timing and difficulty of real 11+ English papers. I tailor them to the major exam boards (including GL, CEM and ISEB) so your child practises exactly what they'll face on the day.

How does the marking and feedback work?

I mark every paper personally and provide detailed written feedback. You'll receive a breakdown of scores by section, clear notes on where your child did well and specific guidance on what to work on next. No generic comments. Everything is tailored to your child.

How many mock exams should my child take before the real thing?

It depends on where they are, but most children benefit from at least three to four mocks spread out over the term before the exam. That gives enough time to act on feedback between each one. I can advise on timing once I see their first set of results.

Can my child take a mock exam if they're not having lessons with you?

Absolutely. The mock exams are a standalone service: you don't need to be enrolled in my weekly classes to use them. That said, if the results show areas that need focused work, I'm happy to recommend next steps.

My child gets very anxious about exams. Will this help?

That's actually one of the biggest reasons parents book these mocks. Sitting a realistic practice paper in a low-stakes environment helps take the fear out of the real thing. Children who've done a few mocks walk into the exam room feeling like they've been there before, because, in a way, they have.
