About Emma McEnroe

Qualified primary teacher with a B.Ed. and a major specialism in English Literature.

Emma McEnroe, English Tutor

Background

I'm a qualified primary teacher with over eight years of experience, a Bachelor of Education from Dublin City University (English Literature major), and a genuine love of helping children read, write and communicate with confidence.

I grew up in Ireland, taught in Dublin for four years, then moved to London for two more. Now I teach online, which means I can work with families across the world. I specialise in 11+ preparation, SATs support, and literacy development for all proficiency levels, including children with speech and language needs and English language learners.

The most important thing to know about how I teach: I build genuine understanding first. Research shows that children learn best when skills are taught clearly, practised regularly, and made enjoyable. That's what every one of my lessons is built around.

My Approach

Student-Centred

Every child learns differently. I tailor my lessons to individual needs and goals: no one-size-fits-all worksheets, no generic programmes.

Research-Informed

I use evidence-based strategies that produce real, measurable progress. Multisensory learning, teacher modelling, active recall: the methods that research shows actually work.

Confidence-Building

Confidence drives progress. I create a supportive environment where children feel safe to take risks, make mistakes and grow, because that's how learning happens.

Skills-Focused

I focus on building genuine understanding and transferable skills. Exam technique comes second.

Aside from her knowledge and understanding of the 11+ she brings empathy, patience, warmth and inspiration to every interaction."
