I want every child to know how to read critically, write clearly and handle grammar with confidence, not just scrape through a test. My KS2 English tuition builds the skills your child actually needs, lesson by lesson, so nothing gets left to chance.
Book a PlaceEvery session is planned around your child's specific needs. I cover reading comprehension strategies, writing composition, SPaG rules and spelling patterns, all aligned to the National Curriculum. I mark work personally, give detailed feedback and adjust the plan as your child progresses. You'll always know exactly what we're working on and why.
Get Started TodayI teach your child how to tackle every question type they'll face: retrieval, inference, summarising, comparison and authorial intent. We work with a range of text types so they can handle fiction, non-fiction and poetry with confidence. I don't just check answers; I show them how to find evidence and explain their thinking clearly.
I teach your child how to plan, structure and write extended pieces across different genres: narratives, persuasive letters, balanced arguments, diary entries and more. We focus on what examiners actually look for: varied sentence structures, purposeful vocabulary, clear organisation and a strong authorial voice.
I work through the full KS2 grammar curriculum systematically: from word classes and clauses to passive voice, subjunctive mood and semi-colons. I teach the rules in a way that makes sense, then we practise applying them in context. No generic comments. Everything is tailored to the patterns your child finds tricky.
I cover the Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 statutory spelling lists alongside the spelling rules and patterns tested in the SATs. I use structured practice that helps spellings stick: not just look, cover, write, check, but understanding why words are spelt the way they are.
The Year 6 SATs test reading, grammar, punctuation, spelling and writing. I make sure your child has practised every question type, knows exactly what's expected and walks into the exam room feeling prepared, not panicked. That's actually one of the biggest reasons parents book.
You don't have to wait until Year 6 to start. If your child is struggling with reading comprehension, finding writing difficult or falling behind on grammar, earlier support means less pressure later.
If your child is already meeting expectations and you want to push for greater depth, I can challenge them with more demanding texts, complex writing tasks and advanced grammar: the kind of work that earns top marks.
Every child is different. Drop me a message and I'll help you work out the best path forward.
Ask EmmaIt depends on what your child needs, but a typical session includes a reading or SPaG activity, a focused teaching segment on a specific skill and a short writing or application task. Everything is planned in advance and tailored to your child: there's no generic lesson plan.
My SATs Preparation service is specifically focused on exam technique and revision in the run-up to SATs. KS2 English tuition is broader: it builds the underlying skills your child needs across reading, writing and grammar, whether or not SATs are on the horizon. Many families use both.
Weekly sessions work best for most children: it gives us enough time to build skills properly without overloading them. If Year 6 SATs are approaching and there's ground to cover, we can temporarily increase to twice a week. I'll always tell you what I think is realistic.
Yes, writing is one of the areas I work on most. A lot of children know what they want to say but can't get it onto paper in a structured way. I break it down: planning, paragraphing, sentence variety, vocabulary choices. We build it up piece by piece until they can write confidently and independently.
Yes, I set a short task to practise what we have learnt.
