02

Built Around Your Child

I work with your child's current level and interests, and fit around your setup.

03

A Plan You Can See

Each lesson builds on the last, and you can see where the term is heading.

Topics and Skills Covered

Reading and Comprehension

I teach your child to read accurately and with understanding. For younger children, that means phonics and decoding. For older students, it's inference, analysis and critical reading across a range of text types. I choose texts that match their level and interests.

Writing Across Genres

I cover narrative writing, persuasive writing, balanced arguments, poetry, letters, reports and more. Your child learns to plan, structure and refine their work. I mark every piece personally and give specific written feedback.

Grammar and Spelling

I teach grammar in context so your child understands the rules and can use them in their own writing. We cover sentence structure, punctuation, word classes and spelling patterns, all at the right level for your child.

Exam Preparation (When Needed)

If your child will sit entrance exams, SATs or any other formal assessment, I make sure their English is ready. I know what examiners expect and I prepare students to meet those expectations confidently.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is this different from regular online tutoring?

Regular tutoring often tops up school learning. My online homeschooling tuition is designed to be the core English provision for children who aren't in school. I plan a term at a time, so each lesson builds on the last.

Do you follow a specific curriculum?

I use the National Curriculum as a reference point, but I don't follow it rigidly. If you use a specific home education curriculum or philosophy, I'll work with it.

Can my child join a small group?

Yes, from Year 3. I run small group sessions that work well for homeschooled children who benefit from learning alongside peers, and groups are no more than five. Children in Reception to Year 2 have 30-minute one-to-one lessons instead, the same format as my KS1 English tuition.

What ages and levels do you cover?

I work with children from Reception to Year 6 level. The content, pace and approach are completely different at each stage.

How do I know my child is making progress?

I give you regular updates on what your child can do, what they're working on and what needs more time. I can also do optional formal assessments if you want to benchmark against age expectations.

What Parents Say

“Dhiren really enjoy lessons with Wordy Classroom. The lessons are interactive, he is engaged the whole time, always learning something new. Emma is great tutor, she is explaining lessons very clearly and she keeps the kids engaged and excited to learn. She is also always available to help me and answer any of my questions or concerns. Her lessons are tailored to each child needs, which is great. I would highly recommend Wordy Classroom. I just wish we start sooner.”

Adriana11+ Parent

“We are so happy we found Emma. Our son’s English has improved so much over the past year. She is a great phonics teacher 😊”

KarlaParent

“Emma is incredible. Although we only had a couple of sessions with her towards the end of our journey it was like she had been there all along. She has a special quality about her that makes her a natural at coaching and tutoring children. Aside from her knowledge and understanding of the 11+ she brings empathy, patience, warmth and inspiration to every interaction.”
