IELTS Academic is not the same test as General Training, and preparing for it the same way is one of the most common mistakes I see. The Academic reading passages are longer and more complex. The writing tasks are completely different. If you're using generic IELTS materials, you're probably not practising the right things.
In every lesson, I work through authentic Academic-format tasks with you. I break down exactly how Task 1 reports and Task 2 essays are scored, and I give you detailed written feedback on every piece of writing. For reading, we focus on the academic-level texts you'll face on exam day: research summaries, data interpretation and complex arguments.

1. Academic Reading
I teach you how to handle dense academic texts under time pressure. We work on identifying argument structures, understanding paraphrased information and tackling the question types that trip up most students: matching headings, True/False/Not Given and summary completion.
2. Academic Writing
Task 1 asks you to describe visual data: charts, graphs, diagrams or processes. Task 2 is a formal essay. I show you exactly how to structure both, what language to use and where students typically lose marks. I mark every piece personally and give feedback you can actually act on.
3. Listening
The listening module is the same across Academic and General Training, but I still build it into our sessions. We work on prediction, note-taking and handling the trickier Section 3 and 4 formats that use academic contexts.
4. Speaking
I run mock speaking tests and coach you through all three parts. We work on extending your answers, using a range of vocabulary naturally and handling abstract Part 3 questions with confidence. I give direct feedback on pronunciation, fluency and coherence.

Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between IELTS Academic and General Training?
The listening and speaking modules are the same, but reading and writing are completely different. Academic reading uses longer, more complex texts. Academic Writing Task 1 asks you to describe data or a process instead of writing a letter. I make sure we're always practising the right format.
How do online lessons work?
We meet on Google Meet. I share Academic-format tasks on screen, we work through them together and I give real-time feedback. Writing tasks are marked between lessons with detailed written comments sent back to you.
How many lessons do I need to improve my band score?
It depends on where you're starting and where you need to get to. A half-band improvement might take 6–8 focused lessons; a full band could take longer. I'll be honest with you about what's realistic after our first session.
Can I focus only on writing?
Yes. Plenty of students come to me because writing is the one module pulling their overall score down. If that's your situation, we'll spend every lesson on it.
Do you provide practice materials?
I do. I use a mix of official Cambridge IELTS materials and tasks I've put together based on what I see students struggling with. Everything is Academic-format and exam-standard.
