Phonics is the single most important building block for reading and writing. If the foundations aren't solid, everything that comes after (comprehension, spelling, creative writing) is harder than it needs to be.
In every lesson, I work through phonics at your child's pace, using a structured, systematic approach that follows the progression they're learning at school. I cover letter sounds, blending, segmenting, tricky words, and early reading fluency. Every session is interactive and engaging. I know how to keep young children focused and learning, even through a screen.

1. Letter Sounds and Recognition
I teach your child to recognise and produce all 44 phonemes in English, starting with the basics and building systematically. We work on single letter sounds, digraphs and trigraphs in a clear progression so nothing gets skipped.
2. Blending and Segmenting
I show your child how to blend sounds together to read words and how to break words apart for spelling. These are the two core skills that unlock independent reading, and I drill them until they're automatic.
3. Tricky Words and High-Frequency Words
Not every word follows phonics rules. I teach common exception words and high-frequency words alongside phonics so your child can read real sentences and stories, not just lists of decodable words.
4. Early Reading Fluency
Once the building blocks are in place, I work on fluency: reading smoothly, with expression and understanding what's being read. I use decodable books matched to your child's phonics stage so they experience real success with real reading.

I use the UFLI programme, a systematic synthetic phonics approach that aligns with what schools in England teach.
Can my child really learn phonics online?
Yes. I've taught phonics online to children as young as 4 and it works brilliantly. I use interactive activities, on-screen resources and plenty of engagement techniques to keep them focused. Parents are often surprised by how well their child responds.
How many lessons will my child need?
It depends on their starting point. Some children need a few weeks of targeted support; others benefit from a longer programme. I'll give you an honest assessment after the first lesson and keep you updated on progress.
Will you help my child prepare for the Year 1 phonics screening check?
Absolutely. I know exactly what the check involves, and I make sure your child is confident with the format, including pseudo-words. We practise under realistic conditions so they know what to expect.
My child can read some words but guesses a lot. Can phonics tuition help?
That's one of the most common things I see. Guessing usually means the phonics foundations aren't fully secure. I go back to find exactly where the gaps are and build from there. It's very fixable with the right support.
